Moto3: Vinales wins the first race of 2013 in Spain

Maverick Vinales (KTM) won the Spanish GP in the Moto3 category, with Luis Salom (KTM) second and German rider Jonas Folger (Kalex-KTM) third. The race was actually red flagged on lap 16 of 23, following an ugly crash for Frenchman Alan Techer, who was then transported to a Jerez hospital for a CAT scan.

It was Vinales’ tenth career win, and the victory also gives him the Moto3 championship points lead, with 65 points. Luis Salom is in second place with 61 points, while Rins (despite crashing today) is third on 41 points.

The best of the Italian riders was Romano Fenati (FTR-Honda), who took ninth place in the Spanish GP. Crashing out was Niccolò Antonelli, while he was racing in the chase group. There were numerous other crashes beyond those of Techer and Antonelli, as Ana Carrasco (KTM) and Alex Rins (KTM) also went down. Struggling mightily was Francesco Bagnaia (FTR-Honda) who entered and exited the pits two times during the race.
